The Golden Age of Piracy: The History of Rhode Island Pirates and Pirate Hunters

Tuesday, May 14th at 6:30 PM in the Community Room

Presented by Luca Rebussini from Cranston, R.I.  Luca is a 6th grade social studies teacher at Jenks Middle School in Pawtucket, R.I. He began his pirate history speeches roughly two years ago out of a combination of a love of Rhode Island history, passion for teaching, and the fun of learning about the remarkable stories of pirates. 

America and the Holocaust: Jim Crow Laws, Eugenics, and the March Toward Genocide in Nazi-Occupied Europe

Presented by Barbara Wahlberg

Tuesday, April 30th at 6:00 PM in the Community Room

This 75 minute presentation provides a case study examining Nazi Germany and the United States during the 1930s, at a time when racism and eugenics were enshrined in law and practice. We will examine the national and historical contexts in which racism manifested in the two countries, and explore how the pseudoscience of eugenics as well as concerns about "racial purity" found its way into the laws of the United States and Nazi Germany.
