Q: How do I get a library card?
Getting an Ocean State Libraries card is free and easy. All you need to bring is a form of identification that shows your picture and address.
Q: How long does it take to get a card?
Cards can usually be issued in minutes, if you visit the library in person.
Q: I have trouble leaving my home. Can I still get a library card?
Yes! Just go to the East Greenwich Free Library website, and click on "My Account." Beneath the sign in blocks is an option to register for a new card. Just click and then fill in the form. (Remember to have your ID handy, so you can upload a picture of it.) When we finish your card, we can mail it out or you can pick it up. It does take a few days.
Q: I just moved here from out of state and don't have a Rhode Island Driver's License or state ID. How do I get a library card?
You can use your out of state ID, or any other official ID with a picture. To show you're a Rhode Island resident, bring a piece of mail, a lease agreement, or anything that is official with your name and address on it.
Q: How old do I have to be to get a library card?
There is no minimum age to get a card! Children up to age 12 can get a card as long as long as their parent or caregiver signs their application. (the parent or caregiver will be financially responsible for anything the child borrows.)
